Coleman Vacu-Print Long (Rifle) Chamber Part No: 11-4701
Developed by Doug Coleman of the Santa Maria Police Department, the Coleman Vacu-Print is a unique method of cyanoacrylate fuming. Evidence is placed inside the chamber and a vacuum is created inside the chamber. When fuming under vacuum, it is nearly impossible to over fume items. No white residue buildup is left behind on evidence or inside the chamber and the greatest advantage is that fumes thoroughly penetrate an item, meaning items such as wadded-up garbage bags and baggies do not need to be spread out.
The Coleman Vacu-Print is an economical vacuum chamber designed specifically for the development of latent prints with cyanoacrylate esters CA. Available in either a table-top or long rifle chamber, both models are made of high-tensile strength aircraft aluminum. This material was selected over PVC because PVC may degrade with time and usage. The optional 1/3 horsepower pump/motor can be used to evacuate air from the chamber.
Once a vacuum has been created, cyanoacrylate esters are pulled into the evidence inside the chambers and completely permeates the objects, processing latent prints in areas that would not be reachable through other fuming or development methods. When finished, the evidence will not have a thick layer of white powder residue, although the latent prints are "locked on" the item. Allow the items to remain in the air for about ten minutes before processing with powders or chemicals.
